Rujište Growing into a Tourist Centre

The winter season that recently started on Rujište has been very successful so far. Great numbers of visitors and fine weather conditions has made Rujište a popular destination, at least with BiH tourists. To illustrate that, we should note that booking and reservations for the celebration of the New Year’s Eve 2012 were opened since June 2011 and all rooms at the “Snježna Kuća” (Snow House) Hotel were already reserved by the end of October.

In addition to winter tourism, the geographic features of Rujište, unique in these parts of Europe, result in great tourist potentials throughout the year, as noted by Mensud Duraković, the Head of the local branch of the Mostar Tourist Association.
“We are satisfied with the numbers of visitors to Rujište, which in addition to winter tourism, could be transformed into sports and recreation centre and a site where people can just come and enjoy healthy living. We hope to realize standing plans that would allow us to promote Rujište to BiH and foreign tourists and visitors as soon as possible”, Duraković said.

The situation at Rujište would be even better were it not for all the illegal construction that can be seen all over the area. The procedure to adopt a regulation and development plan, which would place construction activities within the legal framework and allow for further development of the winter resort has started recently.
 
“It has to be said that we have almost no funding and revenue. We have promoted Rujište in all available fairs and exhibition venues, and the response of the people was great. Those who wanted to invest in this area faced problems securing the necessary permits, but that didn’t stop us”, Duraković told Dnevni list daily.

Although all of Rujište’s potentials have not been tapped into, it didn’t result in a drop of numbers of visitors. Furthermore, the promotion efforts have resulted in a number of foreign visitors, and the Tourist Association is satisfied with the results, so far.
“The money invested in tourism will double its return and all such ventures are profitable. With that in mind, we make an effort to introduce improvements and expand our services and amenities with every new season”, Duraković said.
