Water Sports in the Balkan Peninsula
The Balkan Peninsula rages with wild beauty in the Julian Alps, the Pindus range, and the Carpathian mountains, along its craggy Adriatic coast, among hundreds of Aegean islands and along inviting Black Sea beaches. Sail the same seas as ancient mariners, shoot the rapids in barely discovered streams, or lose yourself (just figuratively, please) in the maze of the Danube Delta for water experiences you’ll find nowhere else. Tribunj: Traditional Donkey Races
Every town has its festival. Likewise each festival has something specific, making each of our towns special. For the people of Tribunj and their guests, it is the Donkey race, a source allround laughter and merriment and an event which attracts many people to Tribunj on the first day of the month of August. Gay Summer in Rab 2011
Welcome to the island of Rab, (Rab town)! Rab has become a gay-friendly summer destination in Croatia thanks to its history, tolerance and pleasant people. In the 1980s Rab was also considered gay a destination, and can you imagine, it was the first location in Europe to have an official nudist beach! In 1936, King Edward VIII and Wallis Simpson obtained permission from city authorities to bathe naked in the inlet of Kandarola, and people have been doing the same on the island’s beaches ever since. Rowing Across the Adriatic
From Croatia to Italy in a kayak. From one Adriatic coast to the other: 200 kilometers i.e. 110 nautical miles in 34 hours. Fioravante Palestini, 62, better known as Gabriellino, is willing to take up the challenge. Gabriellino is not alone in this enterprise (there is also Francesco Di Giandomenico, Maurizio Foschi and Gianluca Crescenti), while his town, Giulianova, is getting ready for the welcome party between July 17 and 18.
A visit to Rijeka
For most tourists Rijeka is only a transit city but I would like them to pay more attention to its complex history and traces of past that mark it. Today, Rijeka is an industrial town with oil refinery and the largest port in Croatia. Geographically, it is situated in the Kvarner Bay which separates Istria and northern coast of Croatia - making it a good strategic position.
Tourism in Croatia? More than just a seaside...
Ante Peric, one of the pioneers of rural tourism in Ivankovo, village near Vinkovci in north-eastern part of continental Croatia, has realised what most people who live in Croatia today refuse to realise, and that is the fact that the number of tourist who come to Croatia to swim and sunbathe will keep decreasing. Every year there are less and less tourists who spend their holidays abroad, passively, in a hotel resembling to army barracks, where they can sunbathe and eat industrially prepared food in a restaurant. Unfortunately, this is what the tourist offer is like in most Croatian villages, in a country that tends to be one of the most attractive tourist destinations in Europe.
