BiH to Host World Paragliding Championship in 2013

Bosnia and Herzegovina will host the 7th World Paragliding Accuracy Championships which will be held next year, August 18-25, 2013, on Mount Bjelašnica.

  As a preparation for the World Championship, the organizer – the BiH Extreme Sport Club will organize the Pre-World Championship next August, on the same location as the World Championship competition. About 120 competitors from all over the world, as well several thousands of visitors from BiH and other countries in the region are expected on Bjelašnica Mountain in August 2012. Read more »

National Geographic Ranks BiH in the Top10 Adventure Tourism Destanations

National Geographic ranked Bosnu i Hercegovina among the 10 best adventure destinations for 2012. Among the destinations that offer excellent rafting, mountaineering, skiing and other adrenaline sports, BiH was named as offering the best mountain biking trails. Three years ago, Lonely Planet declared Bosnia and Herzegovina the state with greatest potential to become the top adventure destination in Eastern Europe. Read more »

Rujište Growing into a Tourist Centre

The winter season that recently started on Rujište has been very successful so far. Great numbers of visitors and fine weather conditions has made Rujište a popular destination, at least with BiH tourists. To illustrate that, we should note that booking and reservations for the celebration of the New Year’s Eve 2012 were opened since June 2011 and all rooms at the “Snježna Kuća” (Snow House) Hotel were already reserved by the end of October.

Exhibition of Tourism Photos from RS in Belgrade

An exhibition of best tourist photographs from the Republic of Srpska will be held at the premises of the Tourism Association of Belgrade, December 7-22, 2011. The majority of tourists that visit the Republic of Srpska come from Serbia, followed by Croatia, Slovenia, Italy and Austria.

Tihomir Ljubojević, the Director of the Tourism Organisation of the Republic of Srpska (TORS), said that the competition on the topic “Tourism Connects Cultures” received about 200 submissions per week, and an expert jury selected the 40 best photographs. Read more »

Islam in the Balkans

We didn't really set out to travel at all in the Balkans. Outside of southern Spain, for its historical importance as a major outpost of Islamic culture, Europe was not to play a big role in our trip. But as it turned out, the cheapest flight from Europe to Dakar departed from Milan, and we figured, what better way to get from Istanbul to Milan than by train? And so, through Sofia (Bulgaria), Belgrade (Serbia), Sarajevo (Bosnia and Hercegovina), Zagreb (Croatia), Ljubljana (Slovenia) and Venice (Italy) we traveled to Milan, mostly on overnight trains. Literary Town to Be Constructed in Višegrad, Bosnia

A town, inspired by the historical novel The bridge on the Drina by Yugoslavian writer Ivo Andrić will be built in Višegrad in Eastern Bosnia, in Republika Srpska.

According to the Serbian telegraph agency TANYUG it will be named Andrićgrad after the Nobel prize-winning author, and will aim at embodying the spirit of the town, as seen in the famous novel.

The construction will start on 28 June and its first stage is scheduled to be completed by September 2012, announced Republika Srpska's president Milorad Dodik and the film director Emir Kusturica, who authored the idea. Read more »
