Rafting on Una River

The legend has it that Una river was named by the Romans, who were so taken by its beauty when they first saw it that they named it “UNA” (lat. one, the only). It runs for 212.5 kilometres from the springs in Donja Suvaja and Donji Lapac areas, to the confluence with Sava river. The canyon in upper Una, upstream from Lohovo, the canyon of the lower Unac river – upstream from its confluence with Una to the Field of Drvar, and the area between the two rivers, makes up the territory of one of the three national parks in Bosnia and Herzegovina. At 230 kilometres, the Neretva is the longest tributary of the Adriatic Sea in the Balkans. Its springs are located in the area of Čemerna. National Geographic Ranks BiH in the Top10 Adventure Tourism Desitanations in the World

National Geographic ranked Bosnu i Hercegovina among the 10 best adventure destinations for 2012. Among the destinations that offer excellent rafting, mountaineering, skiing and other adrenaline sports, BiH was named as offering the best mountain biking trails. Three years ago, Lonely Planet declared Bosnia and Herzegovina the state with greatest potential to become the top adventure destination in Eastern Europe.

Rujište Growing into a Tourist Centre

The winter season that recently started on Rujište has been very successful so far. Great numbers of visitors and fine weather conditions has made Rujište a popular destination, at least with BiH tourists. To illustrate that, we should note that booking and reservations for the celebration of the New Year’s Eve 2012 were opened since June 2011 and all rooms at the “Snježna Kuća” (Snow House) Hotel were already reserved by the end of October. A meeting of the companies, about 50 of them, that aplied for participation in the „New Year's Fair Bihać 2011“, held a meeting at the Bihać Town Hall. Tourist potentials of Jablanica

The oldest archaeological findings show that a settlement existed in Jablanica as early as the iron age. However, the area truly flourished in Roman times and in the Middle ages, as witnessed by a total of 42 dig sites with 683 necropolises and menhirs. The menhir sites were of no interest to the tourists in the past, since they were not properly marked and there was no infrastructure that would bring the tourists to them. Read more »
